Beginning in the 1950s the Soviet Union and Nato engaged in a series of skirmishes using Proxies. A Proxy is a figure that can be used to represent the value of something else; a stand in. Since the major world powers of the Cold War Era could not go to war with each other directly [nuclear weapons=everyone loses]. During The Cold War NATO and The Soviet Union fought many of what became known as proxy wars. A proxy war is on instigated by a major power that does not itself become involved. Today we will examine the Korean Conflict, Vietnam, and The Soviet-Afghan war.
